We cleaned a house where there was a puff-back and he had smoke from his oil furnace leave soot on his gable vents. It was only a month later and we cleaned with SH and turned out fine. Don't oversell. There is a good chance that stain has been there a long time and has soaked into the vinyl. Also try BT200

I have had luck getting out soot with my gutter cleaner "gutter zap"
