I have a house I'm bidding on. They have this light colored brick, with heavy algae growth on the chimney stacks & across the entire rear elevation. Has anyone had any luck with cleaning off the brick without a no-no blaster. 4% is the recommended mixology I believe.
3 to 4% softwashing solution, heavy on Green Wash should clean it up nicely. Id even just mix it up in a 2.5 gallon pump sprayer so you can do a custom mix just for that. Add a little Terra Wash for the soot. Clean these all the time with great success.

Gary,
We find this quite often when bidding jobs and we just spray it as part of our roof work(3-4% mix). The customer rarely ask about it as they think it's soot from the chimney and are extremely happy when it's clean when we finish. We usually don't charge extra. This little extra on our part has landed us additional work through referrels.

Thanks AC!
Planning to do the chimney stack along with the roof as a test area for the HO. I also gave the HO a bid for the back of the house which has the same issue.

Met with the HO this morning. The brick manufacture had warned the HO about using harsh chemicals on this light colored brick. May cause it to yellow? HO agreed to let me do a test area in the back of the house to see how it handles our cleaning process.
Any experience on the brick yellowing, and if so...is there a fix to that. Usually for every chemical action there is a chemical fix to it. Any comments?

I would assume the contractor was thinking more or less using any type of acids on the brick. Sh would be fine to use.

I did a house with light colored brick that had bad algae growth on it and 2% plus pixie dust worked great w/ ch and had minimal residue with it , you should be fine and AC's Hudson sprayer trick will work great for spot cleaning.

What has been your success on this?
