I got a call from a homeowner that wanted a quote on roof cleaning, the name and address sounded familiar, so I checked my records and sure enough I had given them a quote last year along with a small demo on the roof. I went back to the home to speak with the homeowner once again and as I pull into the driveway I can see the roof has many small sections that have been done as "demos", the homeowner asked if I could pick a section that was not clean and provide a demo. I declined and showed them the section I did a year ago and that it was still clean. They were not very happy that I would not "demo" a section again for them. I am pretty sure they are trying to get the whole roof clean by having different companies come out and "demo" a section, this way they don’t have to spend any money to get the results. This is what I get living in a "Dutch" community.
One good thing though, I did walk next door to the neighbor's house and was able to get them to sign up for a roof cleaning.

LOL that is hilarious! What did they say when you told them you already gave a demo? Did they even ask for a price?

They still wanted a quote from me even after informing them I gave them a demo last year, needless to say the quote was much higher than the previous year. Pretty sure I wont hear from them till next year again.

Next time they call, inform them the demo will cost $350.00 and see what they say. And if they sign up for the cleaning, it will be taken off the price of the job.

Good one, Dan! Thanks for the idea
We have a bunch of carpet cleaners in town, and only 4 rooms with carpet.
If I can get one room demo from 4 different carpet cleaners... LOL, just kidding!

Great story! It would be funny to get a picture of this roof with the various "clean" spots all over it.

Dan That is funny I love the fact you held you head high and your price and walked next door and sold his neighbor! Great Ending!
We do very few in fact hardly never, and still close 95% of our in person calls. Small town America has different mindset when you take the time to go see them.
I had a professor who called us and I went out to his A Frame to see him because in his words, It has a little moss on the one side...
I had a little time so I said: " I like show and tell, how about you?" He said I am a visual learner. I said Ok help me run the hose around the back of your A Frame and we will play a little bit.
It blew his mind to see how quickly the "forest" on his roof turned white and even the areas with just GM came as clean as new from just the trails of excess mix traveling down the roof line.
Long story short: Full Roof Cleaning on a small A Frame $649.00 Concrete Sidewalk $100.00 add.
I really do think at times the demo is worth the effort!
